Mister Kleen Maintenance Company Inc., a leading provider of contract cleaning services to commercial and high security facilities in the Washington D.C. metro region, proudly celebrates 45 years in business this year.
“Since my parents, Ernie Sr. and Mary Ann Clark, started Mister Kleen out of our family home in 1976, we have met and overcome significant challenges,” said President Ernie Clark, Jr., CBSE. One of the first was his father’s diagnosis of a rare form of meningitis, which led the younger Clark to take over the business fresh out of high school in 1986. Together with his sister, Dianna Clark, RBSM, the second generation of Clarks grew the company from a home-based operation to a multimillion dollar business employing about 500 team members.
“Through it all, we have remained committed to our quest for excellence and achieving success by providing the highest levels of customer service. Today, the third generation (Christy Da Silva, RBSM, and Chad Clark, RBSM) are also involved in the day-to-day management,” he said.
While the ongoing global pandemic has forced many businesses around the world to pivot their businesses, Mister Kleen has been no stranger to modifying its business model in anticipation of clients’ needs. After starting out with providing solely janitorial services, the Clarks added specialty and restoration services such as carpet and window cleaning.
Following the 9/11 terrorist attacks in 2001, the Clarks shifted the company’s core focus to servicing high security facilities. In the latest business pivot, the current global pandemic brought what was once a specialty service – total facility disinfection – to the forefront of its operations.
The company developed its Enhanced Kleen program to keep essential infrastructure in the nation’s capital operational and to pave the way for commercial enterprise to safely resume. “We move into 2021 continuing this essential work, which often happens behind the scenes and after hours,” Ernie Clark Jr. said. “I am grateful for the loyalty and dedication of our team, and extremely appreciative of our clients for their continued support. We could not have grown into the successful company we are today without you all. I look forward to Mister Kleen continuing to serve our clients for another 45 years and beyond.”
