At Mister Kleen, we’ve long believed that prioritizing green solutions is the right thing to do on principle, rather than simply checking a box. In honor of this year’s Earth Day theme, invest in our planet, we want to share how Mister Kleen has made green cleaning the standard procedure for the safety of our employees, clients, and the planet we call home.
As a family organization, we are passionate about environmental practices that meet the needs of today, without compromising future generations. While some organizations use Earth Day to promote a false impression about their environmental efforts– a practice known as “greenwashing”– we have long implemented green cleaning as our standard operating procedure.
To show our commitment to environmental practices, we have a Green Seal (GS 42) certification from Green Seal – an independent, non-profit organization that identifies and promotes products and services that reduce pollution and waste, conserve resources and habitats, and minimize global warming and ozone depletion. This designation cannot be bought, but rather, is earned through the independent verification of our procedures.
-Recycling: Recycling is promoted in all our accounts, and we work with our clients to implement recycling programs if they don’t have one. We train our staff to separate and recycle all waste items including paper, glass, plastics, cardboard, other packaging materials, empty chemical containers, and worn equipment that are acceptable for recycling in the community.
-Biodegradable solutions: Regarding liquid hand soap, toilet and facial tissue, paper towels and napkins, and plastic trash liners, we use GS-41 approved soaps and EcoLogo for our paper products. We do our best to use plastic trash can liners containing a minimum of 10% post-consumer recycled content or have a thickness of less than 0.7 mils. in as many facilities as possible.
-Microfiber cloths: Color-coded microfiber cloths use the least amount of cleaning chemicals and can last for 500 washes. Microfiber technology is used to avoid cross-contamination and the spread of air borne particulates into the air. Microfiber mops are used when possible, along with a two-bucket mopping system to avoid spreading dirt back onto the floor.
This list only scratches the surface of the measures put in place to ensure we adhere to environmental standards as a GS 42 certified organization. We are proud to offer our GS 42 certified practices, knowing that they are safe for our clients, staff, and the planet.
