Do You Need to Re-Stripe Your Parking Spaces or Paint Your Curbs in Washington DC? Here’s What You Need to Know

Maintaining a beautiful property is a lot of work. This is especially true for building owners and property managers of commercial and high security facilities in the Washington, D.C. area.

During the warmer months, a bulk of your projects with contractors may be spent outdoors. From power sweeping and power scrubbing of your parking garages, sweeping dirt and debris up from your parking lots, cleaning windows, to pressure washing the façade of your building, these are all important projects at this time of year.

However, two projects you do not want to neglect are the re-striping of your parking spaces and the re-painting of your curbs. While you may think that any contractor you hire that has the right equipment is capable of doing these jobs, you may be in for a rude surprise. Here’s a few reasons why you should go with the right contractor to accurately re-stripe your parking spaces and re-paint your curbs in Washington, DC or the Northern Virginia area.

Appearance

First and foremost, a big reason it’s important to make sure your parking lot striping and curb painting is done properly is aesthetics. The condition of your parking lot or garage gives the first impression of your business, which can make or break a customer’s experience—especially for someone using your services for the first time.

Your customers don’t want to pull into a parking lot or garage that’s covered with trash or debris, and they certainly don’t want to pull into one with a lousy striping job. Uneven or messy parking lines communicate a sense of laziness or a lack of maintenance that might make customers start their cars back up and leave.

The same goes for curb painting. Though the most important significance of curb paint is to enforce parking rules, a curb with faded, chipped, or discolored paint definitely doesn’t look nice, either.

Safety & Communicating Parking Regulations

If your parking lot has crooked, messy, or incomplete parking lines, it can cause confusion in your lot and even put your visitors at risk of injury.  Properly striped parking spaces that are not too close together will safely accommodate as many cars as possible, with enough room in each parking space to avoid accidents and costly damage to your customers’ and employees’ vehicles as well as prevent their frustration.

Curb painting is especially important for communicating proper parking procedures at your business. You may have a special loading and unloading entrance for any vendors that deliver goods to your facility, and colored curb paint is often used to indicate that regular customers should not block an entrance. If your curbs aren’t accurately and clearly painted and marked, customers may mistakenly park along your curb and block any trucks that are trying to unload.

Legal Compliance

Depending on where your property is located, local ordinances and laws may require you to have certain types of lot striping or curb painting. The ADA Standards for Accessible Design requires that company parking lots and garages have handicap-accessible spaces. You may also be required to have a fire lane in front of your building in the event of emergencies, clearly indicated by a yellow-painted curb. You should make sure you understand and obey your local laws with proper striping and curb painting to avoid fines.

When Should You Have Your Parking Spaces Re-Striped and Curbs Painted in Washington, DC?

We typically recommend re-striping parking lots and garages and re-painting curbs every 12 to 18 months. When you do need re-striping and re-painting, make sure it’s not raining, and the temperature outside is above freezing. This definitely isn’t a project that you can put off for long, so when it’s time to have your lot or garage re-striped and your curbs painted, contact Mister Kleen!
