Cleaning and Disinfecting For COVID-19 in Your Facility

As a leading provider of commercial cleaning services in the Washington DC Metro market, Mister Kleen’s specialty crews have been called to clean and disinfect facilities with suspected or confirmed cases of COVID-19. Do you know what to do if an employee tells you they’re feeling sick or have tested positive for COVID-19?

Among other things, Virginia’s new workplace safety rules detail whom employers must notify when an employee tests positive for SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. Among those who should be notified are other employers, such as your commercial cleaning company, whose employees were present at the work site within the previous 14 days.

If your company or agency is a tenant in a building, you are also required to notify the facility owner. The owner can then take the necessary steps to sanitize the common areas of the building, according to the state mandates. Areas where the employee worked or accessed should be cleaned and disinfected before allowing other employees access to those areas. If it’s feasible, you should allow 24 hours before cleaning and disinfecting takes place.

CENTERS FOR DISEASE CONTROL GUIDANCE

Virginia’s rules are mostly consistent with the CDC’s guidance but there are some differences, such as how to determine when an infected person can return to work. Both, however, note that when disinfecting workplace areas where an infected person has been, only products indicated by the Environmental Protection Agency for use against SARS-CoV-2 should be used.

The CDC offers more detailed suggestions on the areas to clean and disinfect, such as offices, bathrooms, common areas, shared electronic equipment like tablets, touch screens, keyboards, remote controls, and ATM machines.

MISTER KLEEN’S COVID-19 CLEANING SERVICES

We follow state and CDC guidance when cleaning and disinfecting facilities with suspected or confirmed cases, including using the proper disinfecting products and appropriate PPE. Our suggested two-phase approach begins with an Enhanced Kleen that may include Electrostatic Spraying. Once the area has been cleaned and disinfected, we work with you to come up with an ongoing disinfection program that focuses on high touch and high traffic areas.

In addition to commercial cleaning, we specialize in servicing high security facilities. We can provide COVID-19 trained teams with the appropriate security clearance for your agency or office. You can be assured that these teams conduct their operations with the utmost care and discretion during and outside of regular business hours.
